Freeport, the #13 seed, led early in the first quarter 2-0 and looked as if they could pull off the monumental upset. But when junior Lee Schroeder scored with 2:35 left in the second quarter, Manhasset led 3-2. The Red Devils tied the game seconds later on a Chris Manning tally, but Bill Gahan's goal with 58 seconds left in the half gave Manhasset a lead they did not relinquish. The Indian lead grew to 9-3 with 4:34 remaining in the game and both teams traded goals to account for the final score.
