Historical Notes: Ward Melville won their first state championship defeating Farmingdale (22-1), 8-5, at Cornell University in Ithaca. Led by Rich Wehman’s five goals, the undefeated Patriots scored the last three goals of the game to break a 5-5 tie in the third quarter. Farmingdale’s Rob Staugaitis assisted on all five of the Daler goals. Ward Melville (24-0) had lost in last year’s inaugural state final to Elmont.
