Thursday: South Side Takes Syosset

DAY IN REVIEW: WEDNESDAY - With consistent scoring throughout the game South Side took a 4-2 lead at the halftime break and took the 9-5 victory over Syosset. Bryant-bound junior attackman Owen West led the scoring with 3g for the Cyclones. Clarke held off an eight-goal surge by Freeport to take a 13-12 win on the road. Bayport-Blue Point took off in the last quarter with three goals in their 9-8 win at Wantagh. Other winners were Harborfields, Lawrence and Long Beach.

Syosset vs South SideWANTAGH 8  - BAYPORT-BLUE POINT 9 -  Bayport-Blue Point scored 3 unanswered goals in the 4th quarter.

Will Greaves won 19 of 21 faceoffs for Wantagh and Kyle Conklin had 16 saves in the loss against a high-powered Bayport-Blue Point offense. Antony Tsakos led the Warriors with 4g-1a and Nick Cupelli added 2g. There were no stats from either team at post-time.  [BOX SCORE] 

SYOSSET 5  - SOUTH SIDE 9 -  With consistent scoring throughout the game South Side took a 4-2 lead at the halftime break and then won the 9-5 victory over Syosset. Senior attackman Ryan Mayerhofer (2g-1a) and Bryant-bound junior attackman Owen West led the scoring with 3g for the Cyclones. Junior attackman Michael Aiello had 2a and Liam Livingston had 1g-1a. Winning face offs for South Side was junior Michael Melkonian with 10/18 and in the goal senior Tommy Gentile recorded 10s/5ga = 67%. South Side hosts Port Washington on Monday. Syosset vs South SideLAWRENCE 10  - SEWANHAKA 3 -  After a slow start and a 3-1 halftime score, Lawrence added three more in the third and four more the the fourth quarter for the win which was the first opening day win in four years. All ten goals were scored by seniors Kody Kirchner (4g-3a), Quinn Kerins (4g-1a), and Dexter Robinson (2g-3a). In the cage, senior goalie Amari Elliott recorded six saves while leading am inexperienced defense to a dominant performance. Lawrence is at Elmont on Saturday. There was no report from Sewanhaka (0-1) at post-time.  [BOX SCORE] 

FREEPORT 12  - CLARKE 13 -  After a strong start to the game, a hard working Freeport team came all the way back to be closed out on the doorstep as time expired. Although Freeport was down 8-2 at the half, their eight goals in the fourth quarter made for an exciting finish as Clarke held on for the win.

Leading the scoring for Clarke were seniors Justin Somyak (6g-1a), Nick Iannucci (2g-3a), and Gabriel Cobham (2g-2a). In the goal for Clarke was senior Joseph Buffolino with 10 saves. Hempstead is at Clarke on Saturday.

Leading the scoring for Freeport were seniors Matthew Drayton (4g-2a), Alec Bastien (3g-0a), and Caleb Mann (3g). In the goal was freshman Malik Groover who recorded 14 saves. Freeport hosts Great Neck South on Saturday.   [BOX SCORE] 

Syosset vs South SideLONG BEACH 17  - MINEOLA 4 -  After Mineola took a 3-1 lead at the end of the first quarter, Long Beach scored thirteen goals, while holding the Mustangs to one.

Leading the scoring for Long Beach were senior Jack Miller (6g-3a), junior Luke Hartman (3g-4a), and 8th grade attackman Cian Donaghy (2g-2a). In the goal for Long Beach was sophomore Richie Behr who made 8 saves for the Marines who will host Carey next Tuesday. There was no report from Mineola (0-1) at post-time.   [BOX SCORE] 

HARBORFIELDS 7  - PLAINEDGE 5 -  There were no reports from either team at post-time.   [BOX SCORE]
