Week Four Games To Watch
With the majority of Nassau schools on spring break this week, lacrosse fans will find a mix of conference contests and intriguing non-league games on the schedule.
Garden City (4-1) will travel to Texas this week and take on two of the better teams in the state. Highland Park (11-4), from the Dallas area is led by Mike Pressler and has no losses against teams from within the state of Texas, while The Woodlands (12-2) hails from outside Houston and lost to Highland Park by two goals earlier this season. Those contests are on Tuesday (4/11) and Thursday (4/13), respectively, for the Trojans.
Massapequa will play three times this week, at Plainview JFK (4/11), at Staples (Ct.) (4/13) and home against Scarsdale (4/14). Staples is currently 2-0 and last season won the Connecticut Class L championship with a 19-3 record. The Chiefs are 1-3 with losses to strong programs including nationally ranked Chaminade.
Red-hot Wantagh (5-1) will play on the road twice, at Floral Park (4/11) and at Section I power Mamaroneck on Saturday, April 15. Hard-dodging attackman Antony Tsakos leads the Warriors with 18 goals.
Mercer Island, who hails from the state of Washington, comes to the tri-state area this week and plays three games. On April 11 the Islanders (8-1) take on Syosset (2-2) and on April 13 they face one of the nation's top public-school programs in Manhasset (4-0). The Indians won the annual "Battle of the Sound" on Saturday, defeating Darien 11-2. Faceoff wizard (and returning All-American) Cal Girard makes competing against Manhasset a daunting task. Mercer Island finishes their trip at Section I's Lakeland-Panas on April 14.

Cold Spring Harbor (4-2) plays twice this week, on Tuesday at Island Trees and on Thursday at home against Port Washington (2-2). The Vikings won two games last week, scored 32 goals in the process and feature Luke Meyer, who has scored a dozen goals so far this year. The Seahawks dropped a close one Saturday against Garden City, 4-3, after their annual spring trip in which they beat Section I powers Rye and Yorktown.
Other games of note this week include:
Farmingdale (2-2) at South Side (3-1) on Monday, April 10: The Dalers have won the last two matchups but South Side junior faceoff midfielder Mike Melkonian could tip the game in favor of the Cyclones.
Island Trees (3-2) at MacArthur (2-2) on Friday, April 14: This matchup could come down to a battle between MacArthur longstick Michael Cassano and Bulldogs attackman Kian McCoy (23 points this season).
Seaford (2-3) at Locust Valley (3-1) on Tuesday, April 11: This Conference C/D contest will certainly have playoff implications. Connor Terrell (22 points) leads the Falcons while long stick Jake Anzelone is one to watch for the Vikings.
