Farmingdale Takes Class A Championship
Top seeded Farmingdale (16-3) defeated Port Washington by the score of 11-3 to win the Nassau Class A championship. For Farmingdale, it is their 14th Nassau title and the first since 2011. The Vikings (13-5) were the #2 seed in the Class A tournament and were the defending champions.
Mike Ippoliti made four first quarter saves for the Dalers who led 2-0 after one period of play on goals by Matt Cangelosi and Dylan Mehta. Mehta scored again in the second period and assisted on a goal by Chris Bergersen with 0:06 seconds left to give Farmingdale a 6-0 halftime advantage.
Chase Pastalove opened the second half scoring for the Vikings with an unassisted effort to make it 6-1, but four consecutive goals from the Dalers, two by Bergersen, put the game out of reach. Pastalove scored his second goal on an assist from Luke Meyer at the 9:28 mark of the fourth and Cal Gober added a goal with just under four minutes remaining for Port Washington but Sal Posillico's second goal of the half rounded out the score at 11-3 in favor of Farmingdale.
Ippoliti made eight total saves in the game and was named championship game MVP. Brendan O'Keefe had a goal and three assists for Farmingdale, while Bergersen fininshed with three goals and Mehta had two goals and two assists. Posillico had two goals and an assist as well for the Dalers. Pastalove's two goals led the Vikings, and Alex Papagalis had a strong game at the faceoff dot, winning eight draws with four ground balls.
Farmingdale advances to face three-time Suffolk champion Northport (16-3) in the Long Island Class A chamionship at 3:00 pm on Saturday, June 3rd at Stony Brook University.
