Cold Spring Harbor Repeats As Class D Champion

Top seeded Cold Spring Harbor overwhelmed #2 Friends Academy, 14-1, to win the Seahawks second consecutive Nassau Class D championship last night at Hofstra's Shuart Stadium. Hayden Calabretta earned championship game MVP honors by tallying five points by way of three goals and two assists for Cold Spring Harbor (12-6). Brothers CJ (2g) and Reagan Reilly (2g-1a) combined four goals and an assist as the Seahawks outshot the Quakers, 42-5 and won 13 of 18 faceoffs. Nine players scored for Cold Spring Harbor who led 9-0 at halftime.

Will Bystrom scored the lone goal for Friends and Brett Cohen made 12 saves in goal. For Bystrom, a senior, it was his 52nd goal of the season. Friends finished the season with a record of 11-7. 

For Cold Spring Harbor, it was their 14th Nassau County championship and second consecutive in Class D. They are are the defending NYS Class D champions and will face Mattituck/Greenport/Southold (7-10) in the Long Island Class D championship on Saturday at Stony Brook University. Game time is 12:30 pm.
