Week Four Review
BLAXEIGHT TEAMS OF THE WEEK
New Hyde Park Gladiators
New Hyde Park went 3-0 last week and looks like one of the favorites to come on top in League 3. Coach Mike Milio's squad is the the only undefeated team left in Nassau County this spring.
MacArthur Generals
MacArthur won both its games last week in League 2 play and stands at 6-2 halfway through the season. The Generals went 9-8 last year so an improved overall record could be in the works for coach John Nessler and his team.
Manhasset Indians
Manhasset had a rough few days two weeks ago, allowing 27 total goals in consecutive losses to Connecticut powers Ridgefield and Darien. But the Indians rebounded last week downing Syosset and Rumson-Fair Haven. Coach Keith Cromwell looks to get his team rolling before the showdown with Garden City on May 3rd.
BLAXEIGHT PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
Leo Cataldo, Bethpage
Cataldo (pictured above) dominated at the faceoff X in the Golden Eagles big win over Carey, winning 13 of 17. Two days later, the senior committed to Siena more than held his own against Garden City's star draw man, Luke Cascadden.
Owen Donnellan, Plainedge
Donnellan, a senior attackman headed to Stony Brook, had 11 points (6g, 5a) in wins over Roslyn and North Shore. He has 36 points so far this year.
Michael Jannotte, Massapequa
The senior, headed to Stevens, made 39 saves in two games as the Chiefs split the week, defeating Wantagh and fall to East Islip. He is averaging 14.5 saves a game this spring.
Daniel Kolin, Manhasset
The Navy bound Kolin led Manhasset to victories this week with four goals and five assists. The star attackman has a balanced 16 goals and 17 assists for the season.
Tommy McCarvill, Port Washington
The leading scorer for the Vikings, McCarvill had nine goals and five assists in two victories last week. The senior headed to Maritime has 28 goals so far this season.
Brody Waxer, Syosset
The junior attackman broke out last week to the tune of 14 points (6g, 8a). The Michigan commit has been a marked man all season but has 33 points in 8 games.
BLAXEIGHT GAMES OF THE WEEK
Tuesday, April 22nd- Massapequa at Garden City, 5:00 pm.
Two of the top teams in Nassau meet in a League 1 contest. Garden City has won the last three games in this series dating back to 2019. Both teams have excellent young offensive talent, including the Trojans Charlie Koester and the Chiefs
Tuesday, April 22nd- Syosset at Farmingdale, 5:30 pm.
This annual Class A battle is always one of most intense in Nassau. Both teams went 1-1 last week and are looking to solidify playoff seeding. Brody Waxer is rounding into midseason form for the Braves and will run into a Daler defense led by Mike Galgano and Matt Ippoliti. Farmingdale has won 6 of the last 10 meetings between the schools. These teams have met almost every season since 1969, one of longest running series in Nassau history.
Wednesday, April 23rd, Lynbrook at Herricks, 5:00 pm.
Herricks has had a nice start to their season, sitting at 6-1. The Owls come to Herricks with a record of 7-1 and have won six games in a row. These teams are two of the better squads in League 2 this season.
Wednesday, April 23rd, Long Beach at MacArthur, 7:00 pm.
This one will have an impact on Class B playoff seeding. The host Generals have won six in a row after an 0-2 start. The Marines are 3-5 with a youthful offensive group. Each team has won 15 times in this series dating back to 1965.
Friday, April 25th, Plainedge at Bethpage, 5:00 pm.
This rivalry is strong in football and this game should be a good one featuring a strong Bethpage defense led by Luke Waxer against an Owen Donnellan led Red Devil attack. Bethpage has dominated the all-time series, 26-6.
Friday, April 25th, Port Washington at Massapequa, 5:00 pm.
This game will begin to clear up the Class A seeding picture. The second game of a tough week for the Chiefs against a stingy Vikings defense (4.9 goals allowed per game). Massapequa leads the all-time series 32-19.
Saturday, April 26th, Garden City at Northport, 1:45 pm.
The third game of a busy week for the Trojans is a great matchup of two of the top public school teams on Long Island. The Tigers had been undefeated before losing to Springfield-Delco (PA) over the weekend, 7-4.
