Notable Games at End of May
There were a few notable games and performances yesterday as we rolled into May.
In the Power League:
South Side 7, Manhasset 5
South Side defeated Manhasset (9-5) for the first time since 2014, 7-5. The Cyclones (12-1) were leading 5-3 entering the fourth quarter and Cullen Lynch and Cole DiPietro scored to extend the South Side lead and ensure the victory. Michael Melkonian won 14 of 16 faceoffs and Michael Aiello scored four goals for the winners. With the victory, the Cyclones clinched the top seed in the upcoming Class B playoffs. [ BOX SCORE]
Garden City 16, Syosset 7
Charlie Koester and Carson Kraus each had four goals and two assists to lead Garden City to their ninth straight victory. Luke Cascadden won 13 of 18 faceoffs and Denis Fargione made 11 saves for the Trojans (12-2). David Disque scored four goals for Syosset (6-7). [ BOX SCORE]
Farmingdale 7, Port Washington 4
Cuinn Sunde and Kevin Renneisen each scored two goals and Brendan O'Keefe had two assists to help Farmingdale defeat Port Washington. Joe and Steve Braunshweiger each scored a goal for the Vikings (2-9). With the victory, the Dalers (9-5) earned the top seed in the Class A playoffs. [ BOX SCORE]
Cold Spring Harbor 5, Massapequa 4
The Seahawks are becoming the kings of the close game, earning their fifth one-goal victory of the season by defeating visiting Massapequa, 5-4. Alex Bauer scored the game-winner with 18 seconds left in the game and added an assist for Cold Spring Harbor (9-4), while freshman Rocco Spallina led the Chiefs with two goals and an assist. In Conference B games:
Calhoun 8, Long Beach 6
The Colts improved to 13-1 by defeating Long Beach on the road, 8-6. Braden Garvey had a career high four goals in the win for Calhoun, and Mark Restivo made 15 saves to earn the victory in net. Freshman attackman Cian Donaghy led the Marines (8-4) with two goals and one assist. [ BOX SCORE]
Carey 14, Division Avenue 4
Chris Obertis had five goals and one assist and Ethan Pelzer had two goals and two assists for Carey in a 14-4 win over Division Avenue. Christian Todaro added four assists for the Seahawks (9-5). Cristian Barone made 12 saves for Division Avenue (6-7).

Mepham 13, Sewanhaka 0
Liam Williams assisted on 9 of the 13 goals for Mepham (9-4) in a shutout win over Sewanhaka. He added a goal, and the assist total pushed his career total the century mark, giving him 103 assists. Sewanhaka is 5-8. [ BOX SCORE]
New Hyde Park 16, Glen Cove 4
Cody McClean had six first quarter goals to lead lead the Gladiators past Glen Cove, 16-4. He finished the game with seven goals in all, and Nicholas Garofalo added three goals and two assists for NHP (6-7). Ben Conger-Kielbasa had three assists and Nick Ladeairous scored three goals for the Big Red (4-9). [ BOX SCORE]
MacArthur 15, Great Neck South 2
Gavin Thompson had two goals and four assists for MacArthur in a home victory over the Rebels of Great Neck South (4-8). The Generals (9-5) trio of Jake Henschel, Dean Quitoni, and Bradley Schwartz combined to go 18 for 23 at the faceoff X. [ BOX SCORE]
Jericho 18, Great Neck North 17
Josh Rubin had six goals and three assists to lead Jericho past Great Neck North in the highest-scoring game of the 2024 season. Hudson Gingold had four goals and two assists for the Jayhawks. Daniel Perlman tied a Nassau County record by scoring 13 goals for the Blazers (4-8). [ BOX SCORE]
In Conference C/D:
Wheatley/Carle Place 9, Locust Valley 5
Nicholas Pascarella had four goals and an assist and Blake Lyons had three goals and two assists to lead Wheatley/ Carle Place (8-6) over visiting Locust Valley, 9-5. James Demakpoulos made 10 saves in goal and JJ Gagliardo had seven groundballs and four caused turnovers for the Wildfrogs. Charlie Pisciotta scored twice for the Falcons (1-13). [ BOX SCORE]
North Shore 9, Plainedge 8
The Vikings defeated Plainedge on the road in overtime. Matthew D'Aversa (3g-2a) and Sawyer DeSeve (4g-0a) led North Shore (9-4) offensively and Alex Choi won 14 of 20 faceoffs. Own Donnellan score four goals for Plainedge (7-7). [ BOX SCORE]
Finally, in a Power League-Conference C/D crossover:
Wantagh 20, Seaford 6
Devin Paccione had three goals and five assists to lead Wantagh past Seaford, 20-6. The Warriors (11-3) had seven multiple goal scorers, including Luke Martini with five goals and led 17-2 at halftime. Tim Navin scored four goals for Seaford (9-4). With the victory, Wantagh will be the top seed in the upcoming Class C playoffs. [ BOX SCORE]
